Anchoring principles for adoption AI-powered internal audits represent a natural evolution of digital quality systems, offering richer, timelier insights and the potential for continuous assurance. For regulatory affairs professionals, the opportunity will be realized only by anchoring adoption in a set of core principles: treat AI as part of the regulated system and govern it accordingly; adopt a risk-based and staged validation approach; preserve data integrity and auditability; maintain human oversight and skepticism; and document transparency for inspection and regulatory dialogue. Organizations that internalize these principles and invest in governance, cross-functional capability and thoughtful validation will find that AI changes the nature of audit from an episodic compliance exercise into an ongoing, intelligence-driven competency. The result is not merely greater efficiency but a higher-quality defence posture - one that aligns with both current regulatory expectations and the forward trajectory of digital quality.
